SW Transport Planning was formed by Simon Watts in 2017 to provide clients and co-professionals with information and advice on highway and transport matters. Simon's aim is to work collaboratively and in close partnership with clients and their advisers to ensure that project aims and objectives are understood and that work is tailored to meet clients' needs, timescales and budgets.
Simon is a chartered civil engineer, member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and member of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation.
Simon has 35 years experience in the planning, design and delivery of transport and infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas. His career started in local government where he spent four years at Winchester City Council working in the engineers drawing office. This was followed by three and a half years in Qatar gaining construction site experience before returning to the UK to complete his professional examinations.
The last 30 years have been spent working in the UK consulting industry where he has gained wide ranging experience in the analysis, planning and design of infrastructure projects, specialising in development planning and transport assessment. Project sectors include residential, commercial, retail, energy, waste and leisure developments including mixed-use and urban regeneration schemes.
Simon is a highly experience project director and project manager with extensive knowledge of the planning process, specialising in planning application and appeal work including appearances as expert witness at public inquiries.
